Our church began in 1903 with Rev. A.J. Howard serving as pastor. The first 40
members were baptized in the Chattahoochee River. The first church
was located on Third Avenue, and was known as the North Highland Baptist Church.
Due to the noise from the mill, the church was moved on logs by teams
of oxen to its present location. We continued to grow through the Great Depression.
In 1951, our membership had reached 2,100.
In 1956, our church burned down. Despite such a tragedy, Second Baptist continued to
grow and purchased more property. The building we now occupy was contructed in 1960.
Since then, many changes have taken place within the community, as well as the church.
In 1987, we adopted the "Five Year Building Plan". During this time many improvements
were made with a great deal of building renovations to the entire complex. A new nursery
was contructed. The old office/nursery building was torn down to make room for our new sancuary.
Modern offices were contructed in the old Annex Building.
On February 19, 1995, we moved into our new 600 seat sanctuary.
The "I Believe" Campaign, which started in 1993 began. New landscaping, new parking,
a new sound system, and even a new church sign compliments this miracle of God.
Today, the Holy Spirit continues to bless us in ways that we can
not imagine or explain. Our Baptismal waters are moving, our membership is
steadily increasing, and members are coming out of the wood-works to participate.
When you walk into our doors, you can truely feel the presence of the Lord.
Thank you Lord for blessing our church!
